Chemist and druggist: The Chemists' Dictionary of Synonyms and Trade Names - Uniform with the Chemists' Dictionary of Medical Terms and Treatment

Product Description

Preface: 'The favour with which "The Chemists' Dictionary of Medical Terms and Treatment" has been received suggests that another small volume of the same format will not be unwelcome to chemists and druggists. The basis of the present volume was a Dictionary printed in "The Chemists' and Druggists' Diary," 1910, which was gathered in the first instance during many years' counter experience, articles being demanded by the public under unusual names, which were noted, and so formed a working foundation for this Dictionary. This edition has been carefully revised and considerably supplemented, with the object of making a fairly complete shop-list of words and names which may be heard over the chemist's counter any day, and which, too frequently, elude the memory. It is not intended to be a "learned tome," embracing every word and every definition recorded or used by chemists, pharmacists, and physicians of past generations as well as the present. It would take many large volumes for such a work. In order to keep the book within as small compass as possible, the following abbreviations are used occasionally in the text.' (There follows a list of some 27 shortened forms, such as Akd. = Alkaloid, Br.p. = Bitter principle, P.D. = Dublin Pharmacopoeia, P.F. = "Pharmaceutical Formulas," fuller information being given therein, T.M. = Registered trade-mark, and T.N. = Trade-name, used by a particular maker or vendor.)
