Not illustrated. 1886 Excerpt: ...the Society since the rule above referred to was made, the examiners did not meet nor vote as a court for passing or rejecting any candidate. The adoption of a standard by the Society is useful as a guide to the examiners, but they should have full power to use their own discretion in each particular case after having the opportunity of heaiing and discussing the opinions of all the examiners upon each candidate before finally voting. No percentage limitation has been laid down by the Society in the case of the preliminary examination. The words "good," "middling," and "bad," are suggested, and the examiner can give whatever numerical or other value he pleases to those terms. In bringing this report to a conclusion I would respectfully request permission to send in the report of my visitation of each examination of the Society in future annually, as is done by the visitors of the examinations of the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain to Her Majesty's Privy Council in England, instead of quarterly. By an annual report the comparative results of each examination and the progress of the Society would, I venture to submit, be more usefully brought under the notice of your Excellency and the Privy Council than by a quarterly report." The President remarked that Dr. Duffey's proposal that all the examiners should assist at the Preliminary examina tions would, if carried out, involve a serious increase of expense.
